FAQs

Questions about hydroponics? You are not alone.

  • Our Feedchart Usage Guide explains how to interpret and use General Hydroponics® Pro Feedcharts. It is intended as a companion piece to General Hydroponics® Pro feedcharts for FloraPro®, FloraSeries®, and Maxi Series™.

    Basics
  • Each set of feed charts illustrates Aggressive, Medium, and Light Feeding recipes.  (For most modern production systems, we recommend the Medium Feed strength).

Aggressive Feed: Best for larger, multi-topped plants, where planting density is low and crops are irrigated less frequently.  Plant density 0.25-4 per 16 sq ft

Medium Feed: Suitable for most modern production systems. Best for medium-sized plants and medium planting density, where crops are irrigated frequently. Plant density 4 -10 per 16 sq ft

Light Feed: Best for smaller plants, grown in high-density layouts and using pulse feed or very high frequency, low-volume irrigation events.  Plant density 11- 20 per 16 sq ft

    Basics
  • Each feedchart download includes two versions — Weekly & Growth Phase — and you can choose either version based on your needs.

Weekly Feedchart: The weekly version divides each fertilizer recipe by week from the Seedling/Cuttings stage through Harvest.

Growth Phase Feedchart: The Growth Stage versions include fewer recipes geared toward key growth stages, and are intended for large-scale commercial operators who require simplified fertilizer recipe counts for complex fertigation systems.

    Basics
  • 3-Part Feedchart: Our 3-Part programs use only the base nutrients in FloraSeries®: FloraGro®, FloraBloom®, and FloraMicro®. This program is perfect for growers who want to keep it simple, whether they are a large commercial grower trying to simplify their operation, or a first time hobbyist just trying to get their bearings.

6-Part Feedchart: The 6-Part feedcharts include six total products: the three base nutrients in FloraSeries®, plus three additional liquid fertilizers supplements: CaliMAGic™, Liquid Koolbloom®, Floralicious® Plus.

    • CALiMAGic™ is a concentrated blend of readily available calcium and magnesium, assists fast growing plants by preventing secondary nutrient deficiencies.
    • Liquid Koolbloom® is formulated to provide a boost to the nutrients necessary for maximum floral yields.
    • Floralicious® Plus contains essential plant nutrients that are known to encourage essential oil production and improve plant vigor.

10-Part Feedchart: Our custom performance plan includes ten total products: the six products in the Pro Performance charts, plus four additional supplements — used individually or together — to fine tune your recipe to address any remaining challenges with your plants and their growing environment.

    • ArmorSi™ adds Silica to strengthen and help protect plants from stressful conditions.
    • Rapidstart™ is a proprietary blend of plant nutrients to promote superior root growth and development.
    • Ripen® contains essential plant nutrients needed for flower maturation to support abundant flowering, with greater oil and fragrance production,
    • FloraKleen® helps flush out accumulated salts from the rootzone.
    Basics
  • Hydroponic produce frequently exceeds soil grown produce in terms of flavor and nutrition. This is because all of the nutrients required by the plant are immediately available when the plant needs them.

    Basics
  • Hydroponics is a fun and satisfying hobby that is both challenging and rewarding. To start you will need a hydroponic system, hydroponic nutrients, an inert hydroponic media (may be dependent on type of hydroponic system), a light source (natural or artificial), pH and EC meters, time and plants.

    BasicsGetting started
  • There is a huge popular debate about the value of “organic” fertilizers and methods. Many people would like to apply “organics” to hydroponics. Currently accepted organic fertilizer components are dependent upon organisms in the soil to convert the “organic” materials into a useable form for plants. In hydroponics we provide the minerals required for plant growth directly, completely eliminating the need for soil and soil organisms. The result is much higher growth rates and yields than organic methods can achieve.

    Basics
  • Aeroponics is a method of growing in which oxygen is infused into the nutrient solution, allowing the roots to absorb nutrients faster and more easily. Typically, an aeroponics system utilizes foggers, misters or sprayers that create very small droplets of nutrient solution. Another name you may hear used for this method is “fogponics”. Because the nutrient and oxygen rich solution is so easily absorbed by the plants roots, less fertilizer is required. This facilitates rapid growth resulting in fantastic yields.

    Basics
  • Anywhere. Indoors, in a greenhouse as well as outdoors. Any plant can be grown with hydroponics, though some are more delicate than others. If there is enough light for the plant to grow, you can probably bet somebody has grown it using hydroponics.

    Basics
  • Hydroponic produce is cleaner than its soil grown counterpart, and the grower has the ability to adjust the nutrient feed for maximal growth and yield in the shortest time.

    Basics
  • Certainly. About 160 years ago scientists determined that ten elements were required for plant growth. Three of these ten were provided by air and water: carbon (C), hydrogen (H) and oxygen (O). The others, nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), potassium (K), calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg), sulfur (S) and iron (Fe) were obtained by plants from the soil or other growing medium. Six additional elements have been determined essential for plant growth: manganese (Mn), zinc (Zn), copper (Cu), boron (B), molybdenum (Mb) and chlorine (C1). These six also are generally supplied through the growing medium. FloraSeries® contains all of these elements.
